andBeyond Debuts Suyian Homestead In Kenya

The five-suite retreat on the Suyian Conservancy is set to open in 2027.

There is a particular calm at Suyian Homestead, one that has nothing to do with silence. Set on a ridgeline within the 44,000-acre Suyian Conservancy in Kenya’s wild north, the five-suite property that andBeyond will open in June 2027 dispenses with the schedules most safari stays run on—fixed mealtimes and game drives—and a sense of being hosted rather than being at home.

For up to 11 guests across a Master Suite and four further suites, one arranged as a triple, Suyian Homestead is built as a abode to inhabit briefly on one’s own terms. A dedicated team of 13 staff, together with two private guides and two six-seater four-by-fours, keeps the machinery of the stay largely invisible.

What guests are left with is roughly 560 sqm of shared living space: an open kitchen, long dining tables, an infinity pool, terraces angled toward the surrounding bush. Set some 10 minutes from the existing andBeyond Suyian Lodge, Suyian Homestead borrows selected facilities from its older sibling without losing its own sense of self-containment.

Nicholas Plewman Architects, working with Michaelis Boyd, has shaped Suyian Homestead’s sculptural forms to follow the ridgelines of the granite kopjes around it, softened by indigenous planting that mimics vegetation growing naturally between the rock fissures.

Fox Browne Creative’s interiors carry the same instinct indoors: plaster, reclaimed timber, stone and bronze, alongside Kenyan-crafted furniture, Samburu artefacts and beadwork. Each suite has its own mood and palette, but the effect is of one composed house rather than five discrete rooms competing for attention.

The property’s relationship to the land is not incidental. Suyian Conservancy is owned by the Suyian Conservancy Trust and managed under a Kenya Wildlife Service-approved plan, with oversight from the conservation NGO Space for Giants.

andBeyond is its only tourism presence, operating within a corridor that forms part of the wider Laikipia-Ewaso ecosystem, one of the most biodiverse landscapes of its size anywhere in the world. Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe and African wild dog move through it; so, occasionally, does the elusive black leopard.

The Homestead’s own footprint is deliberately restrained: roughly 80 per cent of its energy needs will come from solar power, backed by borehole water systems and rainwater harvesting, while the kitchen sources ingredients from within a 50km radius of the property.

The name itself carries significance. Suyian is the Maa word for the African wild dog, an animal defined by cooperation, trust and shared movement rather than solitary habit.

“Suyian Homestead is designed as a place people return to,” says Jane Braack, andBeyond’s Managing Director for East Africa Lodges. “A home for shared rituals and time spent properly together.”
