Trunk (Hotel) Expands Beyond Tokyo To Open A Property In Sapporo

The boutique brand’s fourth hotel will comprise a new spa concept, a private sushi diner, and 107 rooms.

Nine years after opening its first address in Shibuya, Trunk (Hotel) is stepping outside Tokyo.

Trunk (Hotel) Sapporo is slated to open on 17 September 2027 in the city’s central Odori district. It will be Trunk (Hotel)’s largest property yet with 18 storeys and 107 rooms, and a spa concept the brand has never attempted before.

That spa, Trunk (Bath House), occupies its own floor. A 40m waterway leads guests through 10 bathing areas, each with a different lighting ambience, sound, and water temperature. There will be separate men’s and women’s zones holding communal baths, saunas and cold plunges.

It is a considerably more ambitious wellness offering than anything at the Shibuya or Yoyogi Park properties, and it anchors the case that the Sapporo destination is a statement of intent.

Sushi Saito, the Tokyo restaurant that held three Michelin stars for a decade before moving to private reservations, opens its first branch here, too.

The restaurant pairs Edo-style technique with Hokkaido ingredients at a chef’s counter. An all-day restaurant and a lounge with live piano share the same floor, alongside an outdoor terrace where transparent dining domes are built for Sapporo’s snow season.

The 107 rooms, split between 18 suites and 89 standard rooms, adopt a design language Trunk calls Midcentury Folklore. The space is replete with warm wood and handcrafted detail drawn from Hokkaido’s landscape, developed with Tokyo studio General Design Co. and the brand’s in-house Trunk Atelier.

Elsewhere, a private studio houses a cinema and karaoke room, three banquet halls, and a chapel with a six-metre ceiling that looks out over greenery.

Trunk’s expansion does not stop here. A further Tokyo property is planned for Shibuya’s Dogenzaka area in 2028, suggesting Sapporo is less a one-off than the first move in a wider growth plan. For a brand that built its reputation on a single Tokyo address, the scale of this second act is the real story.
